TERESANS ENJOYED 2008 CST PILGRIMAGE

     Led by our very own Sister Ramona Miller OSF ‘67 and Fr. John Petrokovic OFM Cap, the Franciscan Pilgrimage Programs coordinated a wonderful trip to Italy in April 2008.  Eleven Teresans with family and friends formed a tight knit community, including Sister Johanna Orlett OSF ‘61 who was celebrating her golden Jubilee as a Sister of Saint Francis of Rochester, Minnesota.

     The pilgrimage included ways for our group to bring into focus the vision and legacy of Saint Francis and Clare of Assisi and to re-discover the Franciscan and Teresan values learned and experienced while attending the College of Saint Teresa.  The guiding principles of Francis and Clare were lived values, a clear Gospel vision and respect for the human person.  Francis and Clare worked together to rebuild the Church and society.  As responsible Christians, we are called to work together for the same purpose. 

     The group included travels to Rome, where they experienced the beginnings of the Franciscan movement, St. Peter’s Basilica, the Tomb of Peter, and San Francesco a Ripa, Saint Francis’ home among the poor.  During their time at Assisi, the group visited every significant place associated with Francis and Clare.  LaVerna was filled with our Franciscan legacy as well.  Then, the group moved on to Greccio – Rieti Valley and experienced the Christmas liturgy, where Francis fostered the custom of the Christmas crib.  The group finished their tour in beautiful Florence, knowing that Teresans are a blessed group guided by Francis and Clare, and our beloved Sisters of Saint Francis.

Mary Aloysius Molloy
“Extraordinary Woman”

The National Women’s History Project (NWHP) selected Mary Aloysius Molloy as one of its 2006 honorees.   The National Women’s History Project is a self-sustaining, non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the contributions and accomplishments of women to schools and to professional, educational, and business organizations.

Ann Patterson Gibson ‘69 nominated Mary Molloy because of her foundational role in bringing the opportunity of Catholic higher education for women to southern Minnesota.   On October 25, 2005, Ann received this message from Molly Murphy MacGregor, Executive Director of the National Women’s History Project:

I am very happy to announce that the National Women’s History Project has selected Mary Aloysius Molloy (1880-1954) as one of our 2006 honorees as a woman who is a builder of communities and dreams...Thank you for nominating this extraordinary woman.

Having Molloy’s image and brief biography appear in NWHP’s monthly materials means that women and men everywhere can learn what we Teresans have always known:  that Mary Aloysius Molloy was truly an extraordinary woman.
